Work sucks. That's why there's "Lucid Nightmare" by Waveless, which happens to be the ideal blast of bummer noise for blocking out soul-stabbing drudgery. Even just the psychedelic punk song's final two minutes, devoted almost entirely to Dustin McChesney's scalding guitar solo, are a salve for a shitty day. Got the day off? Waveless's self-titled EP, loaded with damaged emotion and gauzy white noise, happens to be just as stimulating for sitting around staring at nice paintings. In total, these four songs have more feel than most bands can get out of 40. With the help of Neil Weir at Old Blackberry Way, McChesney, bassist/vocalist Hannah Fraser, and drummer Jared Sather recently recorded Spirit Island, their full-length debut. It's due this summer. Just another reminder that sometimes there's treasure at the bottom of that bucket of murky water.
